The IDC MarketScape for RPA evaluated 12 companies against 10 evaluation criteria categories, including RPA capabilities, innovation strategy, and customer satisfaction. These twelve are UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Kryon, EdgeVerve Systems, Blue Prism, Kofax, SAP, IBM, Microsoft, Appian, Pegasystems, and Nintex. The first five were recognized as the Leaders, the last seven were named the Major Players.

If we compare the IDC Assessment to the recent similar ratings such as “2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for RPA” and “Everest Group RPA Products PEAK Matrix Assessment 2021”, we can find the following differences:

  • Kryon and EdgeVerve Systems are named Leaders only by IDC and Microsoft only by Gartner
  • IDC didn’t mention NICE at all, although it is a Leader in Everest Group Peak Matrix and next to them in Gartner Magic Quadrant.
  • Nintex is higher evaluated by IDC (Major Player) than by Gartner (Niche Player) and Everest Group (Aspirant).

“We believe that automation as a boardroom priority shouldn’t be new or surprising anymore. Now the race is on towards a greater vision for automation’s role across the entire enterprise: scaling and scope extension. Our customers, and their employees alike, want more than simple desktop-based task enablement. The world has changed and so have the needs of customers. We’re incredibly proud of our recognition from the IDC MarketScape, and we believe it validates automation’s role in the world.”

Ted Kummert, Executive VP of Product and Engineering, UiPath

RPA is an anchor technology of an enterprise’s automation strategy. Over the past few years, RPA platforms have significantly broadened out and become much more sophisticated and disruptive. Key factors that contribute to Automation Anywhere being named a Leader include its platform architecture, innovative cloud-to-ground infrastructure especially suitable for work-at-home use cases, and a well-featured studio environment with strong ease of use.”
